By connecting 1,920 ports around the world, the waterway helps facilitate 180 trade routes, which make up the more than 13,000 transits in a given year. (Panama Canal Authority) The canal system is truly global, with dozens of companies from numerous countries holding contracts for various canal operations, along with investments in nearby infrastructure.
