About Eddie

Eddie McCoven is a multimedia journalist based in Phoenix, Arizona. He is available for short term anchor/host fill-in or correspondent work as well as voiceovers.

Professional Experience

From Seattle to Panama City, Panama, Eddie McCoven has reported the news on radio, television and digital for more than 10 years. 

A dedicated professional, Eddie has written, produced, reported and anchored the news in top markets, including San Diego, Los Angeles and Phoenix, all with one goal in mind: keeping the audience informed about the issues that matter the most.

Currently, Eddie works as a Multimedia Producer for CBS News affiliate KFNX AM 1100 in Phoenix, Ariz.

Previously, Eddie was featured on Arizona PBS as a Weather Anchor and Multimedia Journalist, with special reporting on the 2024 election, immigration, the death of Pope Francis, the Arizona state budget stalemate and the 2025 monsoon season. He also spent a week on the ground as a correspondent covering the geopolitical tensions in Panama.

Before moving to Phoenix, Eddie was a Multimedia Journalist at KYMA and KECY-TV in Yuma, Ariz.

In his native Southern California, Eddie was a Regional News Anchor/Reporter for NBC News Radio, a division of iHeartRadio, where he anchored newscasts for multiple markets, including San Diego, Los Angeles and Sacramento. He also anchored newscasts for stations in Anchorage and Fairbanks, Alaska, as well as contributing audio and digital reporting to multiple stations and the NBC News Radio national newscast.

Also during his tenure with iHeart, Eddie was the interim executive producer for San Diego’s Morning News with Ted Garcia and LaDona Harvey, a four-hour morning drive news program on legacy station KOGO AM. 

Prior to iHeart, Eddie worked as a producer and reporter for Herring Network’s cable news division, as well as a writer/producer for KUSI TV in San Diego. He began his broadcasting career as a production assistant at KPLU FM in Tacoma, Wash.

Before his time in media, Eddie worked as a retail manager and public relations specialist in the music industry and the non-profit sector, bringing a wealth of life experience to his reporting.

Education & Involvement

Eddie is a graduate of the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication with a Master of Mass Communication. During his time at the Cronkite School, Eddie was a news/weather anchor and music host for Blaze Radio, ASU’s award-winning college radio station. He was also involved with the Religion News Association and the Association of LGBTQ+ Journalists.

He also holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communication from Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Wash., with a minor in Business Marketing. While at PLU, Eddie was a writer for the college newspaper and was a host and programming director for the college radio station. He also sang with the University Men’s Chorus and Chapel Choir and was a ministry assistant to the University Pastor. Eddie was inducted into the university’s Pinnacle Society for campus leadership.

Eddie also holds an Associates degree in Business Management from San Diego Miramar College, an undergraduate certificate in Records and Information Management from San Diego City College and an Associates in Information Systems from San Diego Mesa College. During his time at Mesa College, Eddie was president of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society and participated in various student organizations, including the Gay-Straight Alliance, International Students Club and Inter-Club Council. He was the recipient of the Associated Student Government Campus Leadership Award.

Also during his time in community college, Eddie volunteered for programs with San Diego Catholic Worker and the Surfrider Foundation.
